WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE?

Emotional intelligence helps us to be aware of, make sense of, and make use of the information from our emotional competencies, to guide our thinking and actions with others and ourselves.

  • Examples of well-known leadership competencies include:
  • Empathy
  • Flexibility
  • Happiness
  • Impulse Control
  • Independence
  • Optimism

  • Self-Regard
  • Stress Tolerance
  • The best leaders are strong in all of the following areas:
  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Management

  • There are six different leadership styles, to be used selectively when most appropriate. The styles are:
  • Visionary
  • Coaching
  • Affiliative
  • Democratic
  • Pace-Setting
  • Commanding style

Each style has its strengths and limitations, and overused strengths become weaknesses.
